![]() Today we explore a few of Oakland's nearest neighbors, Alameda, Berkeley, and San Francisco. One of the things I love most about living in the Bay Area, is that cities just blend into one another -- it's common to visit three or four cities in any given day. Unless you cross a bridge, the lines are seamless. Still, each city maintains its own unique character. On your next visit to the Bay, treat yourself to an afternoon in Alameda. This charming little city is just minutes from Downtown Oakland, and is accessible via bridge, Tube, or ferry. Alameda has a classic small town feel, with beautiful tree lined streets and rows of Victorian homes. If Victorian homes aren't your cup of tea, there are also an abundance of mid-century charmers. Make sure to visit Tucker's Ice Cream on Park Street for some homemade deliciousness. 'What's the most pleasurable way to arrive in San Francisco?' you ask. Ferry. Definitely. From the ferry terminal you can walk to The Buena Vista, my favorite place to enjoy an Irish coffee. Still thirsty? Head to Vesuvio and City Lights Booksellers in North Beach, and then to The Tonga Room for a final round. I'm sure you'll have no difficulty finding pleasure and entertainment in this lovely city. Enjoy! -Jen 'San Francisco itself is art, above all literary art. Every block is a short story, every hill a novel. Every home a poem...That is the whole truth.' William Saroyan. |
