When we were flying home from California last month, I sat next to a young mom and her three-month-old. Actually, I was happy when she sat next to me. I think she could see in my eyes I wanted her to sit next to me with that lovely babe. But as I talked with her, she told me her husband was serving in Afghanistan. I was trying hard not to cry for her. The loss her husband must be feeling in the many months he doesn't see his little son grow. And while they Skype, it's just not the same.

People do this every day. They serve, but there is much more to it. There is way more lost in the process.

So, I wanted to say 'thank you.'

This is a yucca flower. I hear the plant is edible and quite tasty. Again, this is from Joshua Tree National Park. I have more photos posted here if you would like to take a gander.

It should be one of the wonders of the world. There are 800,000 acres of land at the Joshua Tree National Park. And it took us all day to drive through one portion of it. But if you ever get the chance to see Joshua Trees in person, in a mass like this, it takes your breath away.
I am always in awe of our nation's park systems. We visited two of them during our trip to California.

 Yorktowne, Virginia.
A classic piece of americana. Hi! I am back. I may have some visitors from time to time, but my original plan was a bit more than I bargained for. So come back.

I was recently asked by a friend if I would like to be involved with an auction for Haiti. All proceeds will go to a charity called St Joseph's Family of Homes for Children, which is located in Haiti. St. Joseph's is funded through a Canadian non-profit organization called Broken Wings Missions, Inc. . They will be handling the sales from the auction and sending on the funds to St. Joseph's. What is even more awesome is that the Canadian government is also matching all funds made through this auction. The auction will take place from Feburary 1st - 9 AM EST - February 8th.

The auction site: To Haiti With Love

My contribution can be viewed here.

There are so many wonderful items to bid on and throughout the week, more will be added. So keep checking back. I know many of us have been moved by all of the loss and destruction in Haiti and have felt completely helpless as to what to do. This is one of many ways you can contribute and also receive a wonderful gift in return. As a favor, I ask you to forward this on to as many people possible. Remember, this is for a good cause and all the money made in this week-long auction will go to St. Joseph's.

xoxo - Jen
